ADOPTED!

Guess who's off the market?! Yup! This pair of cuties found their forever home, together!  :)  I'm so excited Pixie and Lola are finally set for life together. I couldn't be happier they got a home for the holidays. I'm hoping I can hear more from the family (and get some pictures), and that they do well there.

I've gotta admit though, I'm kinda sad I couldn't see them off myself. They're a sweet pair however, and I know they'll win the hearts of their adoptive family just as easily as they did mine. So thanks to everyone who's been following their saga, it's been incredibly fun and I'm already stalking the pound pages to see If I can find another cat (or two) to do it all over again.

So one last sign-off on behalf of the silly set of girls, Pixie and Lola. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Meet Lola!

Hi there folks, my name is Lola. I'm two years old and I'm a lucky black cat. My foster mom calls me the sweetest cat that she ever did meet.  How about that?  I'd hate to brag, but I do love my human friends.  I can't wait for them to get home so I can run up for a snuggle and tell them about my day.

I just love to cuddle and am a little black shadow making sure you're not getting into any trouble without me.  I'm a laid back cat who just wants to be around people. Don't get me wrong though, I love my play time too! My favorite game is to leap up in the air after a feather wand.  I also love to sneak attack things from around a corner. My foster mom says it's the cutest thing to see me wiggling my tail just before leaping on the poor unexpected toy (Or my best friend Pixie if she's giving me too much trouble.)

Mostly, I just want to be around you.  I do like laying in the sun sometimes though, just catching the rays and kicking back.  After that, I may tour the house for a bit, making sure that each nook and cranny is all in its place.  I love exploring and finding places I bet you don't even know existed.

I am definitely a nurturing, patient cat.  If anything is wrong in the house, I am immediately there looking to see how I can make it better.  I love looking after my little friend Pixie and making sure she doesn't get into any trouble too.  Maybe you could take us both home?  I love to snuggle with her while you're gone and we play really well together!

I'd be happy just to have a place to call my own though. I'm kinda sad to be here at the Petsmart on Grant and Swan waiting for my forever family. I'd much rather be with you, snuggling and cuddling and just being around friendly faces.

My purrrfect home is out there I'm sure!  I get along with most everyone, other cats, dogs, kids and anything that's not small and may look like something I could hunt. I learn very quickly too, so I rarely get into trouble once you tell me not to do something.

If you'd like to meet me, I'd love to see you at the Petsmart on Grant and Swan.  Ask to see me in person, I am kinda scared that I got put back in a cage after being in the pound, but I'd love to show you my true colors.

Lots of love,
Lola

Meet Pixie!

Hi there!  My name is Pixie.  I'm what's called a cowcat, since my white coat with black spots supposedly makes me look like a cow.  While I do like munching on some grass every once and a while, I like to think I'm called a cowcat because I am really a cowgirl at heart.

I am just a bit over a year old and still have lots of kitten in me.  I love adventuring all around your house, chasing down any varmits that I find. Don't worry if you don't have any though, there are these awesome toys like lasers and feather wands that help me practice my wrangling skills. I loveeee to play. I'll even help you by bringing you my favorite toy when I decide it's playtime.  My foster mom says it's adorable.

She's right, I am adorable. And I know it.  I love snuggling up to you, looking up with my gorgeous eyes and begging to be pet.  Even cowcats need to be pampered too.  I'm a goofy girl at heart though. I always want to know exactly what you're doing and if I can help out.  Whether it's sneaking food from you...

Doing dishes...

Decorating...

Or even just snuggling on the sofa.

I've been a wandering gal long enough now though, I'm really looking to find my purrrfect partner(s) to take me to my own home on the range.  My perfect family would be someone who can play with me a lot and who has animals that don't mind me wanting to play with them. I'm a very active and frisky kitty, and I'd love to have another playful cat to keep me company. (A side note, I love my best friend Lola. We've been together a while and she's the bestest cat I know.  My favorite wish is that we could go home together.)

I'm not a huge fan of big, playful dogs. I'm too small to play with them and they scare me a bit if they get too curious.  I love my older husky friend though and we curl up together all the time.  Kids and I get along okkk, but I probably shouldn't go home around younger ones.  I am still learning to play gentle and be patient about being picked up and hugged. I don't want to hurt someone by accident!

Does it sound like I could fit in your home? I'd love for you to meet me so I can give you a taste of my down-home cowcat charm in person.  I'm currently at the Petsmart on Grant and Swan if you'd like to come visit!  Ask to see me in person, I'd love to get out and play with you, my cage isn't the wide open range I'm used to!

Anyway, I'll sign off with a howdy and a hi-five for you!  I hope that someone reading this is my true forever family. I can't wait to meet you!

Pixie

All dressed up and ready to go!

So the day has finally come.  Pixie and Lola are now off at Petsmart in the adoptable cats center. I'd post a picture, but I only have ones of them behind the bars of the cages, and it breaks my heart. I'm going to the adoption event today so hopefully I will have better ones, or better yet, the most amazing ones of them going home with their perfect forever family.

I have to admit, I'm going to miss these little girls so much. The house is so empty without them.  I just hope I'm there to see them head to their own homes.

Also, I'll be doing one (hopefully) last update on my two lovelies.  I found out yesterday that Lola is actually only 2, which makes a whole lot more sense than 7!  Also makes it much easier for her to be adopted.  So there we have it, their story is hopefully almost done. I can't wait to see where they end up.

Lola's Beauty Shoot

Poor Lola!  I was looking through the blog and realized that she never really gets her chance to shine for the camera. Lola has never been a big fan of sitting still for the camera (she would much rather run around or be pet!), plus Pixie usually comes in and steals the show!

So I decided to do a Lola-only photoshoot and let her beauty be known to the world. :)

She was surprisingly cooperative with treats and an interesting backdrop.

In true Lola form, she was more curious about the camera...

...and determined to be pet...

...than interested in posing and looking completely adorable!

She definitely got it down though...

...and showed off how completely cute she is!

She did get a bit distracted at times...

...but pulled it off beautifully, and I even got a picture of how pretty her eyes are!

Of course, Pixie can never be kept away for long and decided that she wanted some attention as well.  She and Lola settled down for a nice long grooming session to wind down from the excitement of the day.

I'm so glad that I got a chance to show off Lola though. She's my little cuddlebug and always wants to be around you and be pet. She's so sweet and patient. I'm sure Lola is going to be someone's awesome lap cat.  She's the perfect mix of laid back and playful.  She's still waiting to meet her perfect match, so drop a line if you'd like to see if you are it!

Kitty Bloopers

Wow. Only one post for all of October?? I was definitely slacking. I promise to make up for it this month though. I have a bunch of posts I want to do in the works so it's just a matter of getting the cats to cooperate for pictures. Of course, that is a task all of its own so we'll see what happens. ;)

I have a confession though. I am not the best photographer. To make up for it I take -lots- of pictures (seriously, I carry around 2 4GB cards with me in case I fill one up).  When it comes to cats (particularly these two sillies), I have to take even more to make up for their lack of interest in posing for the camera. The results after all of it are lots of bad pictures, a few great pictures and a bunch of silly ones. Of course, I like to highlight Pixie and Lola's best side, but I can't help but share some of their silly faces I see every day.

We're just practicing sticking our tongues out so we can be as cool as these guys!

Whhhaaattt? Lola is NOT cuter than I am!
 *rolls eyes*  I'm totally cuter.
 Just a minute here...
THE WORLD IS SPINNING!

Well, here are a few at least, I'm sure there will be plenty more in time. Pixie and Lola will always be silly...cute. :)

Electoral Cats

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last 2 months, you know that today is Election Day!  Adding their meows to the chorus, Pixie and Lola want you to make sure you go and vote today.

The cats and I decided to have our own ballot box.  Both Pixie and Lola love boxes. What better way to encourage you to vote, by looking cute and reminding you of your civic duty?  So without further ado, Pixie and Lola's political debut!  **Disclaimer: Pixie and Lola have no political affiliation, they just want to make sure you go out and vote, whether it's for Romney, Obama, Gary Johnson, Jill Stien or the Purple People Eater.

Hey! You can't watch us vote!

This would be a lot easier if I had thumbs...

The ballot goes in here?  What a waste of a perfectly good box.

And then of course, they decided voting was much less fun than playing with the box. :)

Home Alone

Sorry for the lack of updates everyone!! I meant to post this weeks ago, but put it off because I didn't have the pictures I wanted. And then procrastination hit...anyway I have a few other posts already in the works, so expect them soon!

Anyway, a few weekends ago, I had a wedding to attend. It was the first time that I've left the cats completely alone for more than a day, and I was a bit nervous.  Pixie in particular has a curious desire to explore and get into EVERYTHING.  I was worried that leaving her alone for more than 24 hours may result in something disastrous for either the cats or the house.  I also was worried that they may regress a bit in terms of affection being alone.

When I say everything, I mean everrrything.

Of course, like with everything else about this pair, I was pleasantly surprised by how well they did. Other than a heavier than usual coating of cat hair on the sofa, the house was fine and the cats were more than happy to see me.  They greeted me at the door, and Pixie was very vocal about wanting to be pet before dashing off to find a toy for me to play with her. She's learned if she brings me a feather wand or simply goes and meows loud enough while sitting on it that I'll generally come and play with her.

Apparently she took a liking to playing with shoes while I was gone. She gets more like a dog every day.  I'm working on fetch. :)

Lola on the other hand was content to come and twine around my legs, wanting to be pet and idly join in on the play time before going up to sit on top of the sofa to watch. I gave them both a treat of some wet food after playtime, and Lola took advantage of Pixie's preoccupation with the food to come and demand some attention of her own.

She still doesn't pose well for the camera. I'm going to do a beauty shoot with her soon to get some really good pictures show off how pretty she really is.

They both have really come into their own, to a point where I think they'd be fine being adopted separately. Of course, I'd love to see them together, but now that Pixie is completely comfortable around humans and other animals, I think she doesn't -need- Lola to show her the ropes. In fact, I have been separating them more and more during food/playtime to see how they do.  Lola actually comes into her own when we're just one on one, and Pixie isn't around to distract her and me.

That being said, they still are absolutely adorable and love being around each other. (I finally got a picture of them cuddling!)  So if you have a spot (or two!) in your house for some cats they would love to meet you! As always, let me know if you have any questions, I'll do my best to get back to you. :)

Dear Future Adopters,

You don't know it yet, but you are so lucky!  You have some of the cutest cats ever.  I was just lounging after a long day and answering some emails when Pixie sauntered up to check on me. I patted the sofa, and she immediately jumped up and rubbed her head on my hand, purring. I scratched her head for a bit, then she curled up next to me, chin on paws, and snuggled in.

Lola at this point was curious about what was going on and nosed up under my arm, into my lap. After some snuggles, she groomed Pixie a bit before curling up on my other side.

At the moment I am in a kitty sandwich, Pixie snuggled up against my left side and Lola's head on my knee on my right.  They're such awesome, loving cats, and I can't wait for you to meet them! I'm sure they will be the purrrfect addition to your family and will be your cuddlebugs for years. How could you say no to these faces?

Cat Update!

Well, it's been about 3 weeks since I got Lola and Pixie. Time has flown by and they've changed so much!  No longer scared of anything and completely comfortable here, I figured it was time for an update about them.  There's also a bio written in their own words in the most recent posts on the blog!

Pixie:
Pixie is a crazy cat. In the best way possible of course. :)  Gone is any of her previous timidness. She is a root'n toot'n cowgirl...err, cowcat.

I don't know if it's because she hasn't had this much freedom to run around and play before, or just that she's just a naturally boisterous cat.  Either way, she is into EVERYTHING now. She sprints around the house, looking for entertainment, from chasing Lola to hunting bugs and begging food from anyone.  She's also gotten much more coordinated, and she loves jumping up on the counters to get your attention. She's good about staying down and away once you correct her though.

She's even more of a diva now too, sweetly demanding your attention with a cute, little chirp and a leg rub.  She's started sleeping not just with, but on top of me whenever she can and has to be in the middle of the action at all times. She loves to be pet and comes to snuggle whenever she can find a spot next to you.

She is the most adorable of cats and is so loving. She races to the door whenever I come home, follows me around, curls up on the sofa with me and has a look of absolute bliss on her face as she gets pet.

Lola:

Lola is still the sweetest cat I've ever met.  She has almost a southern belle attitude towards everything.  If she could talk, I'm sure it would be in that sweet, slow southern accent.

She is a calmer cat than Pixie and definitely just loves being around you and being pet.  For being a middle-aged cat though, she is still very active and runs around with Pixie when she's excited. She can most often be found on top of a chair or in the windowsill though, just chilling out. She will flop over almost anywhere, wanting to keep an eye on everything and be sure she's not missing out.

She hates closed doors I've found. Even when I'm in the bathroom she mews pitifully wanting to be let in. Once let in of course, she jumps up and wants to be pet immediately to make sure you haven't forgotten her. Pixie hasn't gotten much better about coming when called, but Lola will come over to you when you call for her.  Southern belle's don't have any sense of urgency so it is a leisurely stroll in your general direction, but she'll get there eventually.

Lola is still definitely a nurturing, motherly figure for Pixie as well.  She keeps an eye on Pixie when she's scampering around and if Pixie seems to be in trouble (Note: being pitiful about getting her nails trimmed), she'll immediately run over to wash and comfort her. It's adorable.

I think the best part about the two of them is that they're such a well matched pair.  Lola can keep Pixie entertained and in line and Pixie makes sure that Lola stays active and playful.  It's so fun to watch the two of them interact. Between tearing around the house in a game a chase to curling up next to each other for a nap, they love to be around each other and are adorable doing it. The only problem is trying to take a picture of them!  As soon as I get up to get my camera, they both want to be up and finding out what I'm doing instead of holding their cute pose. One day I promise I will get you all pictures!

Well, that's what's up with Pixie and Lola now.  If you have any questions please feel free to message me or comment and I'll do my best to get you answers!

September 12, 2012

Oh happy day!

Today was a great day!  No big news on the Pixie/Lola front, but there were two other cats adopted today.

I'm helping clean fosters who are being shown at Petsmart. Most of them weren't on Petfinder yet, so I took my camera today to take some pictures. It was so fun, playing with all the cats a bit to cheer them up and grab some fun pictures...or at least some fun times.  The cats were so excited to run around a bit that it was hard to get them to stand still long enough to take a good picture. In the midst of this, I talked to a few potential adoptees. While they expressed interest in the cats, I expected them to go home and decide it  wasn't going to work. Happily, I was wrong! Gracie the playful lovebug and Sebi the scared lapcat both went home to their families. Here are some pictures of them as well as the other three up for adoption, Guy, Annie Oakley and Rosie.

This is Annie Oakley, she's a huge furry lovebug. She is in the front of the adoption area and always demanded attention from anyone walking past.

I love her name too!

This is Guy. And boy, is he a BIG Guy. My grandmother and aunt have a cat that looks exactly like him, size and all. He's a really chill guy who loves chin scratches. He didn't want to stand still once he was out of his cage, so I only have the one picture.  He's gonna get snatched up soon I'm sure.

This is Gracie saying goodbye to her kennelmates. She was adopted out a few hours after I left. Apparently her new family was one of the ones who had come by and gotten a chance to play with her while I was cleaning. She made quite the impression, and they came back soon after to bring her home. :)
All smiles about being adopted! :)

This is Rosie! She couldn't wait to get out of her cage and into my lap. She was so curious and ready to see everything. She's a chatty-cathy and mewed and nuzzled me for snuggles.

She can also give Hi-5's. :)

Sebi was my favorite. And she got adopted this evening!! The poor thing was a neglected, long hair, Siamese who apparently came in matted and starving. She's looking a lot better, but was still kinda ragged and scared of being in the small kennel. Once she was out, you couldn't budge her from your lap no matter how much you tried. I'm so glad that she has found a home where she can be the pampered lap cat she is.

Of course, this made me all the more eager to see Pixie and Lola find their forever homes. Pixie is going in to get spayed/vaccinated hopefully next week,  and then they'll be officially up for adoption. I'm so attached to them already that I wonder how I'll feel letting them go. I'll just have to enjoy them as much as I can now and make sure they have the best of homes to go to. :)
